Effective immediately, JHS principal Brett Miksch resigned on March 27. He will be pursuing an opportunity outside of the education field. With his resignation, David Pierce will be appointed as the interim principal for the remainder of the school year.
“I cannot say thank you enough to each of you for what you have meant to me personally and how much respect I have for you all in what you do each day,” Miksch said. “Continue to build those championship mindsets’ and continue to show up and do the work that matters!”
Miksch announced his leave in an email to students, parents and staff on his last day. Soon after, Pierce announced his new role in another email.
“I am proud to serve Hays CISD in any role necessary and promise to serve the Johnson High School students, staff, and families to the best of my ability every day during this transition,” Pierce said.
Pierce has been working with the district for 15 years and was principal of Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon ISD from 2004-2009 and principal of Hays High School from 2009-2022.
“I am excited to take on this opportunity and look forward to meeting as many students, staff and parents as possible in the coming weeks,” Pierce said.
Miksch has been the principal for five years and has implemented programs for the student body academic mindset.
“It has been an incredible journey opening up Johnson,” Miksch said. “Very proud of you all, and also excited for the next chapter in my life. I’ll always be a Jag.”
