The JHS theater is releasing a new comedy murder mystery play, Clue, a production of the movie of its same name that came out in 1985. Showings are Nov. 7-9, and tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets are only sold online through HomeTown Ticketing.
“It’s just a really funny [play], I guess, and I always have fun with that,” junior Jasper Schiesoer, one of the actors, said. “[The characters] are all kind of weird and crazy in their own ways.”
The play centers around a cast of eccentric characters who are trapped in a mansion with an unknown murderer. As they attempt to figure out who is committing the crimes, the bodies start to pile up. The show involves theater production class students, like stagehand junior Brody Franke.
“I watch out for cues and [am] told when to move stuff and what to move on and off the stage,” Franke said. “It’s a lot less stressful than the lights or sounds, or being an assistant stage manager or stage manager.”
A lot of work has gone into the play, including extensive behind-the-scenes work by the theater production class to ensure the audience’s enjoyment. The theater production class casts students who auditioned for it the previous year and were accepted. Most of them have competed in UIL competitions, like junior Jasper Schiesoer, who plays the character Mr. Wadsworth.
“[Wadsworth] is just weird [sometimes],” Schiesoer said. “After the first murder, I’m going nuts. The British accent, and the physicality, running all over the place and screaming, it could be worse. But I do like being able to be insane. I think that’s fun.”
