The girls basketball team played Bowie on Nov. 19. They took defeat 69 v. 47.
“I’m glad we won against Canyon Lake and Holmes was a good game, so I don’t think it was a bad loss. We kept up with them,” senior Aniyah Soto said.
Johnson has been taking defeat for the past couple of games, but won against Canyon Lake 50 v. 35. The team is working on improving their communication and energy for their home game against Austin High School on Dec. 3.
“I definitely want to win,” junior Bailey Barret said. “I have friends on the team, so obviously I want to beat them. I think it is a tough competition, but our team will have a chance for sure.”
Basketball is more than just a sport; it is a community. Even through the losses Johnson has faced, the players are enjoying playing against and with their friends and enjoy playing the sport even if they don’t take the win.
“I’d say motivation wise, bring more energy and try to control the pace,” Soto said.
The team recognizes what they need to improve on and they know what to focus on for their next game to ensure they win.
“Give it a try,” Barret said. “The worst thing you can do is mess up and not be good at it. It’s fine to quit, but just try it out to see if you like it.”
