The debate team competed on Jan. 11 at Churchill High School against hundreds of students. None of the JHS students advanced, but they will be competing again on Jan. 18.
“I advanced every other competition except that one this year,” junior Emma Wagner said.
There were two students who competed in student congress, Wagner competed in prose, and senior Addison Petrea competed in prose and program oral interpretation (POI). Petrea advanced to the semi-finals in prose but didn’t make it in POI.
“I was proud of it,” Petrea said. “I was a little bit upset because [of] the fact that I didn’t make finals, but I won a previous comp[etition], so I’m a little bit upset I didn’t make finals.”
The debate team will compete again at Mcneil High School, where they will be competing in multiple events.
