The Power of the Press

The Power of the Press
Jag Journal Editor-In-Chief Daniella Moreno
  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

To me, Freedom of the Press ensures my rights as a student journalist. It is a shield for the press as it ensures our words, our stories, and our voices can’t be harmed.

  • Why is Freedom of the Press important to you?

Freedom of the Press is vital to being a good journalist. To limit what a journalist can write, can only lead to more harm and corruption in our society.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Journalists have a lot of power in the world and they must uphold that responsibility to the best of their abilities. If they don’t, it leads to mistrust and can develop the wrong reputation journalists want to have. It’s important to maintain ethicity to ensure stories are being shared without people viewing down on them solely based on who wrote the story.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

To me, freedom of press means the ability to share stories without having attention on whether or not they could be taken down. It’s a feeling of security, knowing that as long as we are unbiased and lawful, we can publish with no anxiety about review.

  • Why is Freedom of the Press important to you?

Freedom of press is important to me because it’s storytelling. School news sites share what is going on around them that is important to the community. We should be allowed to share and highlight what matters with security.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Ethical journalism feels like it’s the key to freedom of press. When telling stories, it must be unbiased and fair and show an accurate representation of the community. The integrity of student press is SO crucial. I would be so mad if my story was told wrong or my voice used wrong in press.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

Freedom of the press is basically an anti-censorship rights movement to me. Having reporters be able to tell the stories they want to tell with all the facts, and having no one prohibit the public from seeing it, because of whatever issue, is necessary for society. Especially considering all the problems occurring and the voices that want to shine light on it. The news is responsible for informing the world, and without information, how are we to know anything, and radically, how are we to help?

  • Why is Freedom of the Press important to you?

Freedom of the press is important to me because it means I can write the stories I’d like to write without a finger poking my face and ripping up my script.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Ethical journalism is important because it prevents corruption. Facts are one, if not the main factor to journalism, and articles must be true, or else credentials no longer mean anything, and the field as a whole turns problematic. If people are lied to, negative consequences ensure.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

Freedom of the press is sticking up for those around you that are too afraid or don’t have the time to put into telling a story that matters to a group of people.

  • Why is the Freedom of the Press important to you?

Freedom of the press is my way, as a student, to express my perspective and sometimes opinion in a controlled manner.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Ethical journalism ensures that our publications align with the student view and tell an accurate story.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

To me, freedom of the press is a big deal. It is an honor to be involved with journalism and be able to interview and hear what others have to say freely!

  • Why is the Freedom of the Press important to you?

Freedom of the Press is important to me because it’s something that we see in our everyday lives like turning on the news and seeing others report on what is happening today and without our first amendment that wouldn’t really be able to happen.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Being ethical is such an important aspect in Journalism. There is all this talk about fake news and what is really going on in our country, and even other countries, so it’s very important to stick to the truth, whether it’s what you agree with or not, it’s not about that, it’s about the facts that people need to know.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

Freedom of press is important to because it prevents misinformation, to some degree, or at least enables people to apply their best judgement to deciding which info they view is most reliable.

  • Why is the Freedom of the Press important to you?

To me, freedom of press is synonymous with a free market economy: it’s free, by definition, and practically, it’s regulated based off of quality or in this case info and content.

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Ethical journalism is important in order to maintain objectivity and authenticity of the press.

  • What does Freedom of the Press mean to you?

The freedom of press means everything to me. It helps us as a society learn what is happening around us and how it makes others feel.

  • Why is the Freedom of the Press important to you?

The Freedom of the press is so important to me because if people can’t report on events going on around the world, how will we know what is going on?

  • Why is ethical journalism important to you?

Ethical journalism is important to me because it means that you cannot lie and only facts can come out of true ethical journalism and the truth is the number one key factor in good journalism.
