With the school year ending, sports and the arts have their last performances. Jaguar’s theatre seniors will turn on the stage lights for the last time for the annual senior directs, directed and produced by the Thespian Society. In the spotlight this year, ‘Interrupting Vanessa’ by Bella Moreno and ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ by Rachel Oates and Scarlett Teague will be open to the public on May 3 on campus. ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ is a technical-heavy show that requires actors with knowledge of the world of technical theatre.
“‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ is so famous,” senior Scarlett Teague says. “It’s been on Broadway, it’s been in the [London] West Ends, and it now has a high school that they actually developed in Texas. I was able to Zoom call with the original writers of the high school edition and they gave me many tips on building our set and getting everything ready, so I feel really confident in our show choice.”
Meanwhile, ‘Interrupting Vanessa’ is a moving performance that will require actors to tune into their intense and emotional side. The production aims to let the audience, cast, and crew express their grief and growing pains that have accumulated over the school year into what might be their last performance.
“I chose this play because it involves grief and loss, which is something deep and meaningful for me,” senior Bella Moreno said.
Auditions for acting and technical roles took place on February 28 in the black box. Directors reported seeing old and new talent that presented them with tough selections but ultimately a well-rounded cast.
“I chose my female lead because she completely blew me away with how good she was doing,” Moreno said. “She did the monologue in such a dramatic way that was so intense my manager and I just looked at each other like ‘okay!‘”
The production has three more weeks of rehearsals until the performance, but tickets will be on sale on Revtrak from Friday, April 11 until May 3.
