Voting on Bond 2025 for Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) will be on May 3. Voters need to cast their ballots in their home counties.
This bond election is meant to combat the significant population growth predicted for the remainder of the decade. The current capacity of students in the district is 26,882, but by 2030-2031, that number is expected to increase by 10,000.
“I feel like it would make the school better,” Freshman Gavin Deyoung said. “It’ll help most of us with more of the work that we’re doing.”
There will be five bond projects listed on the ballots for Hays residents to vote on. Proposition A will discuss general growth, safety and rehabilitation of facilities. This will account for new buses, roof maintenance and replacements, land for future school sites, and more. In all, Proposition A will cost $498,937,541.
Proposition B will cover a new comprehensive high school and will cost $396,063,095. Proposition C will encompass the varsity stadium expansion included with constructing the new high school. The proposition will cost $6,096,071.
Proposition D includes fine arts and athletics multipurpose activity centers. The proposition will cost $51,354,633, and if passed, will allow for the construction of four outdoor athletics and fine arts facilities for each school.
“[It] will be nice to have more athletic things going on in school,” Gavin said. “Because it [will] bring more people to our school and stuff.”
Proposition E will consider technology needed for the campus, such as photocopiers, print shop machines, and instructional technology devices. This project will be $16,200,000.
“I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much if they start building after I graduate,” Senior Alexandra Carrera said. “I’m just happy that they’re using tax money for something that’s gonna grow our future generation.”
