As the first semester of 2023 kicks off at JHS, the restrooms are facing closures due to various reasons concerning students.
Students around JHS highschool have been facing minor problems with school restrooms being closed, those problems being bathroom emergencies, or loss of time when having to travel to another restroom.
“They (the restrooms) are closed due to the fact that there’s damage done,” Laura Facundo, head janitor, said. “Graffiti and damages are the leading factor for the restroom’s closures.”
With this insight, it seems the students are completely at fault. With students damaging or stealing school property, the school administration seems to not have a choice.
“We caught a couple guys in the bathroom doing drugs,” Eric Salantes, hall monitor, said. “Kids mess up the restrooms; that’s the reason why we lock them (the restrooms) up.”
Now with drugs in the equation, the hall monitors have to lock the restrooms not only to prevent damage, but for student safety as a whole. This is what a JHS student had to say about the closures.
“I was trying to go to the restroom, but it was locked and I had to wait until the period was over,” Tyler Barrett, sophomore, said. “It’s not too bad, but it certainly is annoying.”
