On Aug. 30, the first football game of the season was hosted. Standing on the playing field of the opposing team, with harsh breaths beating against stuffy headgear and eyes focused on the scoreboard right above their heads, the football team won against Cedar Ridge with a score of 28–14.
“We always have confidence going into a football game because we are a very good football team,” senior football player Jolon Cabello said.
The players were prepared efficiently for the significance of the season’s first game, as reported by Cabello. They had discussions with their head coach Sam Carlin about the importance of staying focused, being patient, and keeping a level head before and during the game to remain superior on the field.
“When we were making mistakes we held our heads high, before going above and beyond throughout the rest of the quarters,” Cabello said.
The football team was engaged and precise in their playing skills in the first quarter, according to Cabello. They were throwing the ball, catching the ball, and gaining touchdowns left and right for the entirety of it. Until the second quarter rolled around, where everything went sideways.
“I feel like we dominated in the first quarter then fell asleep in the second,” Cabello said. “We came back as a team, though, and held our heads high and came off way better in the last two quarters.”
Despite the team’s temporary setback, they managed to wake up, and for the rest of the game piled up scores against their opposition. Confidence was heightened, touchdowns were increasing, and cheers in the bleachers were growing deafening within the field. That is until the score on the board read 28–14, showing that the school had won, and leaving yet another achievement in the history of the school’s sports teams.
“I feel very confident this season and so does the team,” Cabello said. “We hope to make football playoffs.”
