The no-phone law has become a major issue in Texas schools, and since then, it has had a big impact on students’ daily lives on campus. Adults across Texas have raised multiple complaints about phones being taken up or not allowed to be used at school.
Many parents worry that the policy creates a safety hazard and are concerned for their kids being unable to contact them during the school day. On the other hand, teachers believe that this law is necessary in schools, as phones have become a big issue in classrooms and students can no longer focus on their work. As for students, however, the no-phone law is unnecessary and causes more harm than good. When students are unable to be on their phones from 8:55 a.m.-4:25 p.m., it increases the urge to want to check their phones even more, even though it’s against schools rules.
Additionally, students have come out and said that having no phones in school is difficult because students use music to help them focus, and kids with anxiety find that music helps them calm down in stressful situations. Taking away phones removes these coping tools and can affect students in school. Although adults think they are helping kids with being on task, it’s important to recognize that phones are so normalized, and this generation of kids grew up with phones and use phones in everyday life, and they play an important role in communication and personal organization. Because of this, completely banning phones in schools creates more problems than it solves.

Love this Article! I like how it brings up the complicated-ness of this phone ban. I also think this ban is good and bad, mainly because I don’t like the person who brought it up in the first place and like… I love my phone. But, I can’t deny its made me a little less addicted, I still feel a strong urge to use my phone during school (and do) but it does allow me to focus more towards my classes. I take pleasure in that you also mention Gen Z’s early introduction with technology, which I think its important to mention since we’re the first generation to ever grow up with technology in our faces, since the moment we were born, especially late Gen Z. Its basically unfair that older generations who peaked at a very different time are creating ideals that were great for them during their time while ignoring changing factors of the ever growing modern world and ignoring Millennials and Gen Z new problems and culture, its #annoying.
